Master of Science in Data Science and Statistics
This flexible program offers three specializations (see degree requirements):
- Statistics
- Applied Statistics
- Data Science
- Its innovative curriculum involves courses in Statistics, Mathematics, and Computer Science.
- Limited financial support in the form of scholarships and awards are provided. Additional scholarships are available for US citizens and permanent residents.
- Our students, both domestic and international, have a strong record of starting in full-time jobs right after graduation.
- To enhance career prospects, students can pursue Graduate Certificate in Data Science, and possibly use the certificate courses to fulfill the MS degree requirements.
- Eligible UT Dallas students can Fast Track into this MS program and take up to 15 credit hours of MS courses to fulfill the BS degree requirements.
- NSM Career Success Center is available to support professional development and experiential learning of students.
- This program accepts Quick Admit applications from eligible UT Dallas graduates of qualifying BS programs.
- GRE test score is not required for admission.
Placement
Most of our Data Science and Statistics MS graduates go on to work in industry, including some for well-known companies such as American Airlines, Citi, and Nike. Additionally, some choose to continue in academia for further graduate studies. A sample of recent full-time job placements is provided below.

Financial Support
NSM McDermott MS Admission Fellowship is offered to support highly qualified MS students. This fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis at the time of admission. All applicants are automatically considered for this fellowship, and a separate application is not required. Nonresidents of the State of Texas who receive this fellowship are also eligible to be considered for a Competitive Scholarship Waiver. This waiver enables them to pay tuition at the resident rate, but its granting is not assured.
