Our department is a vibrant academic community dedicated to excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education. With nearly 60 full-time faculty and staff members and close to 100 supported graduate students, we conduct outstanding research across pure and applied mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, actuarial science and data science.

We are proud to be home to a nationally acclaimed actuarial science program, recognized as a Center of Actuarial Excellence—the first in Texas and the only one in the Southwest honored by the Society of Actuaries. This distinction places us among just 19 programs in the U.S. and 35 worldwide. Additionally, the Casualty Actuarial Society has awarded our program Silver Level recognition in its University Recognition Program.

Our students excel on the national stage, such as ranking 18th in the prestigious Putnam Competition, competing against over 550 colleges and universities across the U.S. and Canada.
